International Day of Co-operatives 2025

St. George’s, Grenada, June 27, 2025 – On July 5, 2025, co-operatives in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique will join with their global co-operative family to celebrate the International Day of Co-operatives (Coops Day). This year’s theme, “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World”, highlights the cooperative movement’s capacity to respond to today’s most pressing challenges.

This year’s event is especially significant, taking place during the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025)—a rare, once-in-a-decade moment to spotlight the vital role of cooperatives in creating fairer, more resilient societies.

Celebrated worldwide for more than a century and officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on the centenary of the ICA in 1995, the day is annually commemorated on the first Saturday of July. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of co-operatives.

Co-operatives in Grenada continue to demonstrate that the co-operative model is indeed sustainable. Co-operatives have a track record of promoting the economic and social development of all people including marginalized groups. Co-operatives consistently show their resilience in times of social and economic crises.

As the apex body for co-operatives in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique the Grenada Co-operative League Ltd (GCLL) has collaborated with the Department of the Co-operatives to execute a series of activities in observance of the day. One of the main activities is a Co-operative Fair at the Esplanade Mall Courtyard on Friday, July 4, 2025, from 11am to 5pm.

The general public can also win fantastic prizes during the Coops Day Trivia from July 7-31 on the Grenada Co-operative League Ltd’s Facebook page.
