St. George’s, Grenada, October 1, 2019– On October 17, 2019, Grenada Credit Unions will join with 56,000 credit unions worldwide in celebration of the 71st anniversary of International Credit Union (ICU) Day®. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Local Service. Global Reach.” Celebrations will be held at Pearls Airstrip, St. Andrew, with a march past which begins at 3:00pm from the Simon Cultural Park pasture. There will be Live band entertainment and performances from top local artistes including Slatta, Luni Spark and Electrify, Runi Jay and Scholar along with food, drinks and other attractions.
Celebrations on the sister-isle, Carriacou, will take place at the Hillsborough Tennis Court on October 24, 2019. The march past will begin from the Hillsborough Community Centre at 3pm.
There are 200+ million credit union members around the world alone and the Grenada Credit Unions join them in celebration of the not-for-profit co-operative spirit that all credit unions share. This co-operative spirit has led to life-changing opportunities for people all over the world who have wanted to start a small business, own a home or upgrade or continue their education but were denied access to other financial institutions. In many parts of the world, people’s first taste of democracy is through their credit union, where “one member, one vote” is the governing principle.
All credit union members are encouraged to join and celebrate with a movement that concerns itself with the financial success of all people.
